Real Madrid and Chelsea played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in Madrid on Tuesday night.
The game started with both teams looking to assert their authority, with Real Madrid having the better of the early exchanges. The hosts had a chance to take the lead in the 15th minute when Karim Benzema’s shot from a tight angle hit the post.

Chelsea gradually grew into the game and had a good chance of their own in the 23rd minute, when Timo Werner’s shot was saved by Thibaut Courtois in the Real Madrid goal.
The first half was an evenly matched affair, with both teams having their fair share of chances but failing to capitalize on them. The score at half-time remained 0-0.
Chelsea started the second half brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute, when Christian Pulisic finished off a slick team move to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Real Madrid responded well to going behind and equalized in the 29th minute, when Benzema scored with a stunning volley from just outside the box.

The draw also means that both teams are still in with a chance of winning the Champions League this season. Real Madrid are bidding for their 14th European crown, while Chelsea are looking to add a second to their collection.
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was pleased with his team’s performance, but acknowledged that there is still work to do in the second leg.
“We played well, but we know that there is still a long way to go in this tie,” he said. “We have to go to Stamford Bridge and play another 90 minutes. We know that it will be a tough game, but we are ready for the challenge.”
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was also pleased with his team’s display, but felt that they could have done better in the final third.
“I think we played a good game, but we could have scored more goals,” he said. “We had some good chances, but we didn’t take them. We will have to be more clinical in the second leg if we want to progress to the final.”
